Guild Dean Batchelor Award Best

Press Guild, the nations largest
professional automotive media
organization has awarded Chris
Szwedo, creator of A
Gullwing At Twilight: The Bonneville
Ride of John Fitch as
2006 Best Category (Television/Film/DVD/AV)
Winner of the coveted Dean Batchelor
Award. The ceremony was held
recently at the famed Petersen
Automobile Museum in downtown
Los Angeles. A
Gullwing At Twilight ,
a for-PBS entry, is the first
documentary ever to be honored
by the organization. Upon receiving
the award, Szwedo gave thanks
to nominating committee members,
to KCET Los Angeles and all other
PBS affiliates who have aired
the show, and to legendary racer
John Fitch. The Dean Batchelor
Award is dedicated to the memory
and contributions of the late
Dean Batchelor, whose career
spanned many disciplines, from
aircraft builder, to B-17 pilot,
to automotive journalist. Following
his death in 1994, the Motor
Press Guild instituted the award "in
order to recognize the best".
The Award singles out persons
demonstrating outstanding achievement
in automotive journalism and
communications.
